Laboratory and Fire Safety Training is required for faculty, staff, and students, graduates and undergraduates, post-doctorates and visiting scholars before initial assignment to a laboratory. This requirement can be satisfied by attending a two-hour Laboratory and Fire Safety Training seminar. EH&S schedules at least one session per month either at Draper 102 or at the department location. Spaces arte limited, please call EH&S @ 545-2682 to register. No Walk-in allowed.

TO REGISTER FOR TRAINING, PLEASE CALL EH&S at: 545-2682 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to register with the FOLLOWING INFORMATION :

  • First/last name, 8-digit ID# (campus ID#)
  • Status (ugrad, grad, faculty, staff, etc.)
  • P.I./Department for which you will be working
  • Date you will and/or have started work on campus
  • A telephone number where you can be reached
  • Your email address (if you have contacted us by phone)

 

 

Laboratory Safety Training will include:
  • The Massachusetts Right to Know Law, and how to read MSDSsBasic toxicology including routes of entry and occupational exposure limits (PELs, TLVs)Safety equipment and personal protective equipmentProper use of laboratory fume hoodsLaboratory inspections
  • Emergency awareness
Hazardous Waste Training will include:
  • Federal and state Requirements for point of generation
  • Collection
  • Management and disposal of hazardous waste
Fire Safety Training will include
  • Common fire hazards and causes and your role in preventing fires.
  • What to do in case of a fire and what to do if trapped by a fire
  • Fire protection systems
  • How to choose and use the proper fire extinguisher

Note: all sessions require outdoor training. Please dress appropriately for the weather
