Radiation Safety Training

Purpose:
In order to meet the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program (MRCP) material license all new students, staff and faculty who wish to use radioactive material (RAM) must have appropriate safety training.

Program Content:
Radiation safety training consists of two parts. First, the new user contacts Environmental Health & Safety EH&S for initial hazard awareness training. This initial training consists of audio visual materials or group lecture as appropriate. This training covers general radiation safety, RAM use, x-ray analytical equipment use, and laser use. The second part of the training consists of hands on training in the lab under the direction of an experienced RAM user. This training is the most important. This hands on training is followed-up by visits from the radiation safety staff to insure that users have a complete understanding of their role in the safe use of RAM.

Program Scheduling:
Initial hazard awareness training for researchers will be held at least once a month. Following is the training schedule for the month of April and May 2004.

Monday: April 05 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Tuesday: April 20 1:30pm - 4:30pm

Wednesday: May 12 1:30pm - 4:30pm

All training sessions are held at Draper Hall room 102 or 124
